Melanin is the primary pigment of human hair, skin and eye color. The overproduction of melanin, termed hyperpigmentation, results in skin disorder and causes aesthetic concerns. The use of commercially-available depigmenting agents such as hydroquinone, corticosteroids and kojic acid raises some concerns because they are also known to cause negative side effects such as irritation and permanent depigmentation after long term exposure. The extract of the medicinal plants Artemisia and Psidium guajava were found to inhibit the melanin synthesis. In order to achieve the effect of anti-pigmentation and other skin problems on the face, we added artemisia and guava leaf extracts in our handmade soap. These herbs help to inhibit the melanin synthesis and have strong antioxidant effects, so it is a very effective and safe to use anti-pigmentation herbal facial soap.
